Have all the Americans woken up from their Thanksgiving food comas by now? Are all the non-Americans appropriately tired of listening to Thanksgiving related posts? Good news to all: it’s over. Here are all the things that lifted my head off the table this week.

This week, I blogged about the trustworthiness and stability of my unjustly maligned non-profit and micro-business clients. They’re awesome!

Continuous scrolling and larger fonts aren’t my favorite trends, but they’re among the things that Forbes thinks will be the hippest, most happening features of 2014 web design. What do you think? http://onforb.es/1c72M9I

Did you hear about Giving Tuesday this year? In response to the materialism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, non-profit organizations banded together last year and this year for Giving Tuesday — the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. On Giving Tuesday, we were all invited to make contributions to charities or commit to volunteer work during the holidays. At Jebraweb, we posted a couple of unselfies on Giving Tuesday. Here are the causes we supported:

  1. Heartland Alliance: This organization has been in existence in one form or another for the last 125 years. Its goal is to help families in need by giving them respectful assistance that both gets them back on their feet AND gives them the tools to maintain a stable life. You can make a standard donation of whatever amount you like, or you can shop from their “gift catalog,” a list of crucial items these families need: books; pillows & blankets; parenting skills classes; public transportation to job interviews; and more.
  2. Donors Choose Project 1119639: We all know that teachers in public schools end up using their own money to buy many of the supplies in their classrooms. In Jebraweb’s own neighborhood, the local public school has several teachers who have applied for peer-reviewed grants with DonorsChoose.org, an organization that vets the grant requests and provides the technical infrastructure to collect the donations and purchase the products these teachers need with the money donated. We contributed to a project from a reading intervention specialist who wants to videotape her students’ reading at key moments in their education process so that they can see how far they’ve come. She wants the gear she needs to make and save these videos. If you’re moved, please help fund this grant or another through DonorsChoose.org.

Accuracy, delivery, tracking, and shipping: mess up any of these, and you’ll likely lose your online customer.
