Our Favorite Things

Forget the raindrops on roses. Our favorite things to use on web sites are practical and made to last. Here's a list of what's in use on this web site; keep an eye on our blog to learn about tools we've found useful on our clients' sites.

Joomla

joomla logoThis site is run by open source content management system Joomla. Joomla is an award-winning content management system (CMS) which enables you to build Web sites and powerful online applications. Many aspects, including its ease-of-use and extensibility, have made Joomla the most popular Web site software available. Best of all, Joomla is an open source solution that is freely available to everyone! This site is running on Joomla version 3.2.1.

We've been using Joomla for four years, through several software upgrades and changes. It's continued to impress us.

JCE Content Editor

JCE is a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor that runs within Joomla so that, when we're editing a page of text, we see commonly-understood icons above the text we're typing that allow us to do all the fun formatting things we're accustomed to seeing in word processing software. With a click of a button, I can make things bold. I can insert images, align text, run spell-chek spell-check, and all the other things you'd expect with offline word processing software.

WidgetKit is a fantastic, full-featured extension pack that runs both our Twitter feed and the neat-looking tabbed gadget on our Portfolio page. It comes with easy-to-use templates and setups for image galleries, slideshows, slidesets, and other demonstration and display types. We're just getting started with this fabulous tool, so you'll probably see more WidgetKit items elsewhere in our site over time.

ITP Facebook Like Box

Sometimes, all you need is something simple. ITP Facebook Like Box is a free extension for Joomla that inserts our Facebook feed on the bottom of our Contact Us page. It takes five minutes to set up. Done!

JE Social Share Buttons

Take a look in the upper right corner of this page. Yes, up there. See those pretty grey translucent Facebook and Twitter buttons? Those come from JE Social Share, a great little Joomla plugin that sets elegant, seamlessly-integrated social media buttons in a fixed position on our site. We're already using this same extension for several other clients. Even better: it's free!

Stay tuned for more of our favorites!
